Mike and I have always had the dream of building our own home and had become interested in the idea of owning some land to go along with it so we could start a hobby farm. We searched online every now and then and took a drive out to the properties we thought had potential. Nothing really struck us, so we decided to put our search on hold and enjoy the time in the home we had just recently renovated (i.e. blog post #1). Well, as the saying goes, things happen when you least expect it, and that was the case for us. About a week later, I received an email notifying me of a piece of property that just went on the market in the very town I grew up in and where I so desperately wanted our kiddos to go to school. It then became our mission to own this glorious 8 acre piece of property that seemed to have fallen in our laps. And a few weeks later, we made our dream come true!
Mike and I had picked out house plans a few years back, before we even knew this dream would become a reality. We wanted our home to be a reflection of who we are and what we believe in, so a simple "T-shaped" ranch is what we came up with. We wanted a large area for family to gather in, so our kitchen, dining and family room are all combined into one large area. We have an office and first floor laundry near the garage and four bedrooms along the other wing. Our initial plans started with just three bedrooms, but while working with the architect, we found out I was expecting baby #3. We were quite surprised, but were at the perfect point to add on an additional bedroom. Things moved forward with the house as we were set to break ground in October of 2016. Unfortunately, things for our family took yet another turn, when I found out I had miscarried in August. With the loving support of friends and family, Mike and I were reminded how fortunate we are to have two healthy kids and the support of one another as we pursue our crazy dreams together.
